One interesting posting he had in Facebook was the Electronics Voting Machine. In the SDP website that was linked to Facebook, he mentioned about the Indian Electronics Voting Machines I had also mentioned briefing in post post in 2009 "Is my Vote Really Secret". SDP Website also mentioned that the Parliamentary Elections Act (PEA) was amended to provide for Direct Recording Electronic Voting machine or DRE voting machine.
I thought, sure or not?? Is SDP pulling a fast one by fooling the General Public again as claimed by the PAP? Using the useful Google search machine, I found that the Parliamentary Elections Act really contained provision for the DRE VOTING MACHINES! Look at the amendment it was done in 2001 ([19/2001 ] at the side) and yet not many people are aware.
Dr Chee's SDP website also included some links from researchers and even a link posted by a person called Kit on a research done by Princeton University on the flaws and vulnerability these Electronics Voting Machines.
The below videos are sourced from SDP website, and can be found in Youtube or Google Video.
Below is the Youtube video on the Indian machine:

So, are our votes safe if our Dear PAP decided to use the Singapore Version of the DRE Voting Machines that are subjected to hackings and manipulating??
Below is the picture of the USA DRE Voting Machine, ours in the Parliamentary Elections Act sounded surprisingly similair :)

The issue with the balloting is not the use of the electronic voting machine or the hacking thereof. The issue is the "secrecy" of our votes. That came about when Goh Chok Tong threatened to turn into slums those estates that voted non-PAP. So does the PAP track down the voter's choice? By international standards, this is flagrant abuse of democracy. As a matter of fact, even Goh Chok Tong's threat earned a rebuke from Maldeline Albright, then USA Secretary of State. What Goh could do, and may have done, is to analyse the voting pattern by precincts, not down to each individual vote. That would explain why some blocks have covered walkways, others have not. In his interview with Melina Chew for her book "Leaders of Singapore", Goh Keng Swee says the rumor about "non-secrecy" of votes was first used by the communists (then associated with PAP) to discredit the British sponsored elections. Obviously it was such a good scare, the ruling party put it to good use. Oh, BTW Goh was not the first to threaten the electorate. The dubious honor goes to Teh Cheang Wan, who threatened to withhold emergency lift service from blocks voting anti-PAP. Same man Lee Kuan Yew defended in parliament with, "He may not be able to string a compete sentence in good English, but he has an excellent mind." Too bad he used that mind to elicit bribes from contractors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteI remembered SM Goh was asked when he was the PM how he know this block support you or not, I remembered he said "I just know". There maybe a dark system in place to check votes.... With Electronics Voting, hacking of voting profile is a piece of cake.
I believed if the Opposition managed to win some seats in Parliament, the first Act to repel or amend is the Official Secret Act.
This act should enable people working for rouge regime to speak up with the threat of the Official Secret Act.
It will be liked the declassification past matters in the UK.
That declassification is when we know how MM Lee used the ISA to "Fix" his supposing communist opponents even the British wrote him a memo saying those were not a threat anymore. They ended up the longest held political prisoners in the world. .
We should have such system to that there will not be too many skeletons to clear when a regime is gone.
