I was wondering if the trash paper, Newpaper knows the actual reason why these old folks wanted to be self reliance?
For example, The New Paper had a "fact finding" report to proof that the auntie who appeared in Agence France Presse (AFP) video clip is in fact not neglected nor poor. Come on! TNP, most old folks wanted to save expenses and they do not want to "trouble" their children. These pioneers without much educations also knows that it is more and more expensive to live in Singapore. Don't these reporters live in Singapore and does not understand Singapore culture and customs?
Why not the MSM reporters or the New Paper do a fact finding stories on the background of old folks who are dish collectors and table cleaners?
Do they think that these old folks past their retirement wanted to work for fun or for money that are required for their daily expenses? Who will not want to enjoy after retirement unless u cannot afford it?
The government under PAP had forgotten these old generation of nation builders who had contributed to the growth and economy of Singapore for past 40-50 years! They should do something to provide for them to retire happily and not spending some $10million for "Ah Tiongs" or other foreign workers to integrate with Singapore Society!
These old folks toiled their entire working life and now still to do these back breaking jobs....
IMO, the MSM should conduct more of the fact finding trips to these old folks to proof to us that these old folks are actually working as dish collectors and collecting old card boards for fun and leisure!

Good points. And good photographic evidence.
ReplyDeleteMaybe our MSM should do a survey and ask our PAP Ministers and MPs whether they really give a damn about these elderly folks having to toil so hard as cleaners, scavengers, etc.
ReplyDeleteDoes PM Lee not feel ashamed of themselves that our PAP govt cannot even take care of the basic needs of these hardworking old folks in their twilight years while he and his father continue to enjoy their million dollar salaries ?
Thank you for the insightful blogpost. The Singapore Democrats have featured your post in our blogs of the week section – http://yoursdp.org/index.php/news/blogs-of-the-week
ReplyDeleteLast time, my parent told me that in Singapore if do you not study hard, you will have to sweep the floor.
ReplyDeleteThis time, I would have to add more by telling my children that in Singapore, if you do not study hard, you will definately have to sweep the floor and even if you study hard, that would only help you to keep your job (refer to medium to high paying jobs) temporary. When you grow old, the government will get foreigners to replace the the old workers because they are now useless to the economy.
My mother turned 60 last month and after working in the same company for 40 years, she was rewarded with a 10% paycut - for no reason other than turning 60. It's Garmen policy they said..Conservative society? Family values? Respecting Elders? It's beginning to sound a lot like Bullcrap... (sung to the tune of a christmas song...)
ReplyDeleteOnly in Singapore.
what is MSM stands for??
