I read with interest about the KK Women's and Children's Hospital given cancer chemotherapy drugs to 2 women via a wrongly calibrated drug pumps.
It reminded me of the Mas Salamat's escape from the ISD detention centre. The home affair minister was not at fault, but the commandant of that facility and the low ranking home affair officers had given the "black pot" or 黑 锅 to bear.
Just my own opinion, I believed that the two pharmacists (how come pharmacists involved in calibration issue? Should be given to a specialised calibration company to do it?) will be asked to leave due to the fact that they had done deeds. But the CEO of KK Hospital, Mdm Ivy Lim Swee Lian also wife of Dr Ng Eng Hen who is a Cabinet Minister will be unscathed.
She should be coming out to give a statement because she is after all the CEO of the hospital. IMO, she should answer for the mistakes made by her staffs, but those who are directly involved should bear the responsibilities.
I wonder when will these higher mortals' time on the ivory tower be over. Are these people untouchable in Singapore society that they had forgotten the basic thing such as saying sorry? Does it means cabinet minister's relatives are are above law and lack moral responsibilities?

Like I said, if the victims were a Mrs Khaw, Mrs Lee or a Mrs Goh, the treatment of the investigations would definitely be different.
ReplyDeleteDifferent class, different treatment.
Poor Mrs Ng and Mrs Yip. Countering the toxicity of the drug administered is one thing. What about the side effects? Were any organs damaged? Is the damage going to be permanent? Will the Hospital foot any future medical bills that arises from this incident?
Make a wild guess! >8(
If they can escape from holding a by-election and upgrading to be carried out by losing MP. What else they can't do.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed above the law. All animails are equal, but some are more equal than the others.
sorry my mistake... Those who lost are not know as "losing MP". They are just like anyone of us. Not MP.
ReplyDeleteI doubt if there was any double check made except for the most cusory!
ReplyDeleteKKH achieved the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in 2005. It supposed to mean that their patients are in a safe environment. Clearly, someone had overlooked the bioengineering safety issue. It's either KKH is slacking or they have bought a piece of junk.
