Now PM Lee is persuading undergraduates from NTU to embrace the new Citizens or PRs and he said that Singapore need spice in Singapore mix. Er, I thought Singapore some says its a melting pot or we have a diverse society? Singapore already have the spices from the 4 different major races,
- the Chinese with the 5 spices and Nyonya with their Straits Chinese cusines,
- the Malays' traditional dishes such as the spicy mee soto and fish curry,
- the Indian with their MuttonMurtabak
- And not to mention the Eurasian with their East West mix have their Devils Curry!
So what the PM is really talking? I think his speech writers must be sweating and toiling nights and days to brain storm the speech. PM Lee mentioned a brave LTA Kok who saved soldier's live by helping him taking cover during a live grenade throwing session. LTA Kok then took up a scholarship with SAF.
On the other side of the coin, I met my polytechnic classmate and heard that he had served NS althought he was a PR, because he took a polytechnic study grant. After his NS, he went back to Malaysia for good. My polytechnic classmate was just making used of our system as a PR to gain from our "embrace the FT" policy. He was not shy about sharing it at all!
PM Lee enjoyed much media coverage for this "Spice" Speech, however, Chee Soon Juan had a different treatment at NTU when he sneak to NTU to talk to students. Main Stream Media always slam the online news portals for not having a objective views, but do we see a objective views from MSM news coverage? Even the NTU had censored (although NTU is an academic institution) Chee Soon Juan's visit to NTU in 2008.

IMO, its abit late to say "A slower intake of immigrants" to Singaporeans as we had already excess of 1 million immigrants in Singapore. MM Lee implemented "Stop at 2" and now PM Lee, his son implemented "Open Door" policy. The effect of "Stop at 2" policy in the 60s took 1-2 generations to be "neutralized", but Singapore is already felt the graying generation overtaking the younger ones and I am afraid this "Damage" may not recover.....
MM Lee's "Stop at 2" policy need more than a "Open Door" policy by PM Lee to repair.
I think PM Lee is taking the easy way out after the PAP government announce baby bonus is not effective. The PM should look into stepping up social and economic reforms in Singapore to spur Singaporeans to have more babies rather than getting instant "new citizens and PRs" aka "new spice" or "Foreign Talents".
We have to read the line carefully, as the PM is saying "SLOWER INTAKE of Immigrants", In my interpretation, Singaporean married couples had failed a world class government.
Since PM Lee mentioned about spices, these are some of the spices that make the life of people living in Beach Road area more interesting and spicy!

Thai Spice zzz on the floor after boozing....

PRC spices spicing up life of residents with his bare chest.... ;)
